MCA tells of Einstein and the 'infallible' DAP at last meet before GE14
MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong today painted DAP as a party that refuses to take responsibility for its slip-ups despite having been in power for two terms in Penang.
Wee told the story of renowned physicist Albert Einstein arriving at Princeton University for a teaching position and asking for a large wastepaper basket. A curious university staff had then inquired why, Wee continued.
"Einstein's answer was meaningful - he said it was so he could throw his mistakes into the bin.
"Even a great scientist like Einstein acknowledged that he could make mistakes but not DAP that believes it can never make mistakes," he said during his officiating speech at the 53rd MCA Youth annual general assembly today.
Addressing delegates at the MCA headquarters, Wee (photo) cited several examples of the DAP-led Penang government's refusal to own up to its mistakes.
For example, he said DAP sought to downplay flood issues in Penang by saying that no one perished or blaming it on the rain.
He added that the Penang government also played down a previous landslide by claiming that it did not affect traffic flow.
In the latest Tanjung Bungah landslide last month, Wee pointed out that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng again downplayed the incident which claimed 11 lives as a "work-site accident".
Wee, who is also a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said DAP would blame everyone, including MCA, but refused to take responsibility for these issues.
He also accused DAP and Pakatan Harapan as a whole of advocating populist policies but being unable to deliver on them.
"Let us just look at the inconsistent economic policies in the opposition.
"They proposed to reinstate petrol subsidies but are now saying that they will only grant a subsidy of 20 sen per litre for vehicles with a capacity of less than 1,000cc.
"They also used to say that BR1M was vote buying with (Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohammad) likening BR1M to 'dedak' (animal feed) but are now acknowledging that it is a right policy," he told delegates at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Likewise, Wee said the opposition had advocated for the abolition of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) but are now planning to zero-rate items instead.
"If the people do not see through Harapan's game, if they continue to follow blindly and do not see their true colours, the fear is that we will suffer greatly in the future," he said.
In contrast, Wee said MCA had kept its promise to protect the interests of Chinese educationists by securing Putrajaya's agreement to build 10 new Chinese schools.
Wee also praised MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon, who is also the deputy education minister.
"He is far-sighted with long-term vision... the most appropriate description for him is that he is the 'Musang King' of politics," he said in reference to the premium durian.
MCA's wings are meeting for its annual general assembly today and will be followed by the gathering of its main body tomorrow.
The meet will be its last before the 14th general election which is due by August next year.- Mkini
