Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the project was a state initiative under the Infrastructure Development Ministry in replacing old bridges made up of steel to concrete undertaken by Titanium.
According to him, the RM2.5-million bridge is expected to be built within 18 months starting from May 3 with completion slated for November 2017.
“The bridge will connect the whole ‘Seberang Ulu’ comprising Tupong, Kampung Sinjan, Kampung Tanjong and Kampung Sungai Bedil. This connectivity means more comfort for the people as the bridge will be a dual carriage.
“The current Bailey bridge is only single lane, which means you have to queue and wait. This shall no longer be the case once construction is completed,” he told reporters after accompanying Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman in a ground-breaking ceremony for the new bridge at Kampung Sinjan in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
He said the request for the new bridge was made due to the ageing one-lane bridge which rattled under traffic as it is made of steel.
Fadillah pointed out that as the project has acquired some parcel of land for which all compensation has been paid so now (it) is ready for construction which will commerce on May 3.
The first Kampung Sinjan bridge built in 1940 was made of belian before it was reconstructed in 1981 with steel.
