Four investigation papers on Mahathir opened
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened four investigation papers on former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, including one on sedition, the nation’s top cop has revealed.
“We are still reviewing some of the investigation papers, while others have been referred to the Attorney-General,” Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said, although refusing to reveal the details of the other investigation papers.
Khalid was speaking to reporters at a function in Bukit Aman here this morning when he was asked to comment on Mahthir’s interview with the Australian Weekend.
During the interview, Mahathir had allegedly said that without foreign pressure, there was little hope of Prime Minister Najib Razak resigning.
In February, it was reported that police had opened an investigation paper on Mahathir over alleged seditious statements he made in his blog titled “AG to AG”, in which he criticised Apandi Ali for clearing Najib of any wrongdoing over the controversies regarding the RM2.6 billion donation and the RM42 million from SRC International.
On a separate matter, Khalid said police were also studying the report by the Public Accounts Committee on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), which was tabled last week in Parliament.
He said this was to determine if any action could be taken against the former CEO of the state investment arm, Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi.
“We need time to go through the 106-page document.”
Last week, the PAC demanded Shahrol Azral be investigated over his role in 1MDB.
