Get trained and start up, Jamilah tells women
DALAT: Women here have been urged to grab all opportunities available to improve their skills and knowledge.
The Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, said the government was very committed in providing opportunities for women development.
“Everybody knows the role of women is not only to strengthen the family institution but also to help push the country’s economy growth. Today, most women are helping their families to improve their household income.
“They do a variety of jobs to earn halal income to ensure their families live comfortably,” she said at the closing of a Wisma Wanita Training Centre (WWTC) programme at Dalat Stadium yesterday.
Jamilah added it was not impossible for women to succeed as entrepreneurs if they worked hard and smart.
“Starting up a business can be considered as a safe way for women to support their families, especially for those who do not work. Many women, including single mothers, have succeeded in business.”
On the event, Jamilah said the state government fully supported the state’s Women and Family Department’s efforts to implement WWTC courses under the Women Economy Empowerment Programme.
The WWTC programme, she said, were meant for women in the urban and rural areas to ensure equal opportunities for all women.
About 900 participants had taken part in 12 courses held during the two-day programme organised by the state’s Women and Family Department, Dalat Assemblywoman Service Centre, Dalat District Office, Entrepreneurs and Halal Industry Development Unit of the Chief Minister’s Office, Community Development Department, Agriculture Department, Public Works Department and PBB Dalat.
Also present were Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development and Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and the state’s Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad.
