Scrap planned debate on Taman Manggis issue — Abu Zahar
PUTRAJAYA: The Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) has suggested the cancellation of the planned debate between Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on the Taman Manggis land issue in Penang.
In a statement yesterday, JKMR chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang said as a body which monitored the running of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the committee had followed closely the plan for the debate and hoped it would be scrapped.
“JKMR is of the view that it is apt the plan for the debate be cancelled since MACC is conducting an investigation and the committee is worried the (MACC) might be compromised if the plan for the debate is on,” he said.
Abu Zahar added that the authorities be allowed to carry out a full investigation on the matter.
“I suggest to all parties involved to give appropriate cooperation to MACC to conduct its investigation.
“Those with evidence, documents or any proof, and witnesses related to the Taman Manggis land issue, or the bungalow bought by Guan Eng, should hand them over to the MACC rather than hold an open debate.” — Bernama
