Gymnasts Tan, Tracie bag double gold at Slovenia
KUALA LUMPUR: The national artistic gymnastics squad put up a sizzling performance to bag a historic two gold medals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series that concluded in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on Sunday.
The 2015 Singapore SEA Games double gold medallist Tan Ing Yueh contributed Malaysia’s first gold medal after emerging victorious in the balance beam events with 13.800 points, according to the tournament website www.world-cup ljubljana.si.
Slovenian gymnast Adela Sajn took the silver with 13.300 points while Sydney Soloski of Canada claimed the bronze medal with 13.200 points.
Another Malaysian gymnast, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, finished in fifth position out of eight gymnasts in the event, with 12.650 points.
Malaysia’s second gold medal came from Tracie Ang in the floor exercise after she amassed 13.450 points while Soloski and Dorina Boeczoego of Hungary had to be content with the silver and bronze medal respectively after accumulating 13.300 and 13.250 points.
The victory made up for Tracie’s disappointment after she finished in eighth place in the women’s vault event on Saturday.
Farah Ann contributed Malaysia’s first medal in the meet after claiming a silver medal in the women’s vault event.
