Longhouse folk told to request for needed MRP grants
JULAU: Longhouses here have been advised to submit their requests for minor rural project (MRP) grants promptly.
Social Development Minister and Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said he had set aside about RM100,000 of such grants for Meluan, for instance.
During a leader-meet-the-people event organised by Teras Julau branch at Rumah Bani in Nanga Entabai yesterday, Mawan announced an allocation of RM20,000 for Rumah Bani’s village security and development committee (JKKK) and RM5,000 for the longhouse’s Women’s Bureau for the purchase of utensils and other kitchen wares.
At the gathering, he also received Teras new membership application forms from the area.
In his speech, Mawan reiterated why he had to leave SPDP with several of its elected representatives to form Teras.
He said he had done so to ensure the BN coalition would not be affected by the internal squabbles that were brewing in SPDP then.
Others who spoke at the function were Julau District officer Mohd Said Atoi, Julau Special Affairs Department (Jasa) liaison officer Sylvester Embuas, Meradong/Julau District Council secretary Adrian Luang, Tuai Rumah Bani Rimban and Teras Meluan branch chairman Jerry Clement.
