Tiong urges SZCA members to be positive

SIBU: Members of the Sarawak Zhang Clan Association (SZCA) have been urged to adopt a positive attitude in order to face social and economic uncertainties in the country and globally.

In making the call, chairman of Sibu Municipal Council Datuk Tiong Thai King, said they should possess greater confidence and ability to ward off such challenges to ensure their economic survival.

“We must adopt a more positive attitude in facing all difficulties. We have to equip ourselves with knowledge and technological know-how in order to be able to face the challenges with confidence,” he said when addressing the association’s 30th anniversary celebration luncheon held at RH hotel here yesterday.

Tiong, who is also the association’s honorary President urged the members to demonstrate greater wisdom and courage when faced with uncertainties.

“Like the upcoming state election, we must carefully think what our goals and aspirations are as a community and the need for greater Chinese political representation in the government,” he reminded the members while urging them to support the Barisan Nasional government and BN candidates in the election.

He said the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had achieved a lot including recognition of Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), substantial government funding for the Chinese education and greater autonomy for Sarawak during his two years in office. Adenan could achieve much more in the next five years if he is given a bigger mandate in the upcoming state election.

Tiong said, there was no excuse therefore for the Chinese not to be united and give Adenan and BN solid support in order to lead Sarawak to greater height of success and brighter future in the next five years.

Earlier in his speech, chairman of SZCA Tiong Kiong King said Chinese community should make the right judgement of their existing political situation in order to ensure their rights and interests are safeguarded.

At the function, Tiong handed over financial assistance to 10 poor families.

Also present was permanent honorary president of SZCA, Tan Sri Datuk Sir Tiong Hiew King.
