KOTA SAMARAHAN: United People’s Party (UPP) Samarahan branch is urged to rally behind the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Muara Tuang come the 11th state election.

The party’s advisor Dr Chou Chii Ming, who made this call yesterday, said this was to ensure that the candidate could deliver a convincing victory for BN in Muara Tuang.

“I hope you all will give full support to the BN candidate for Muara Tuang because our chief minister has implemented many people-oriented policies,” he said at the launch of the branch’s mascot ‘Oooh Ha’ at the branch office in Tiya Vista here.
Chou noted that the chief minister had expressed his confidence in winning 60 to 70 seats out of the 82 seats to be contested.
With the support from the Chinese community, he believed the chief minister’s team could bag up to 72 seats.
“We hope all the Chinese will support the state BN leadership under the chief minister. Let’s make the 72 seats for BN happen for him.
Chou said the ‘Oooh Ha’ mascot – resembling an eagle – was a creation of the branch and solely belonged to the branch.

According to branch chairman Leong Wei Ping, the idea behind the mascot is to pay tribute to the chief minister who has made tremendous efforts to define the rights and interests of Sarawakians.
He said the eyes of ‘Oooh Ha’ represented the chief minister’s vision to boost the economy of Sarawak particularly in the rural areas and human capital development.
“The sharp claws of ‘Oooh Ha’ symbolises our chief minister’s determination to combat illegal logging while the broad chest of ‘Oooh Ha’ indicates our chief minister’s big mind and great ambition.

“Sarawak government under the leadership of the chief minister has allocated RM1 billion for rural development. We believe in the next five years, rural areas of Sarawak will have a great makeover.”
Leong added that the chief minister “is a visionary leader” who inspired the branch to come up with slogan ‘Because of you’.

At the launch, UPP leaders, members and supporters donned t-shirts with the ‘Oooh Ha’ mascot on the front and ‘Because of you’ complete with the chief minister’s mugshot on the back.
