‘Kenyahs and Kayans will support PKR’
MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Telang Usan candidate Roland Engan is confident of getting the majority of votes from the Kenyah and Kayan community during the next state election.
The PKR Baram chief said in a recent interview that the party would still get votes from the two communities even though the state government has announced the cancellation of the Baram Dam project.
“There are 10,012 voters in Telang Usan. Majority of these voters are the Kayan and Kenyahs followed by the Penan and other Orang Ulu races and also a small number of Chinese voters,” he said.
Roland said PKR would concentrate on issues such as the goods and services tax (GST).
“We have been campaigning about how it affects the livelihood of the people, especially those in rural areas and low income group.
“We believe that the Chinese in Long Lama are with us because of the GST issue,” he said.
However, he acknowledged that some constituents would support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dennis Ngau due to the implementation of the RM135 million Long Lama bridge project, which is now underway.
