BELAWAI: Tanjung Manis is ready to welcome investors, given that most of the necessary infrastructure and facilities are up and ready there.
Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said road connectivity to the area’s halal hub was already in place, while the water supply plant should be ready by the middle of this year.
“Tanjung Manis will also be provided with high-speed broadband.
“The construction of Pusaka Capital and KTS bulking facilities is in progress and is expected to commence operations by the middle of this year.
“The RM70-million bulk storage has a capacity of 64,000 metric tonnes,” he said after officiating at the opening of Tanjung Manis Day yesterday, which coincided with Belawai Festival 2016.
He said Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), through its investment arm Pusaka Capital, was also eyeing at the construction of 200 residential units for government departments and agencies in Tanjung
Manis.
“The state government also plans to explore the possibility of building quarters for industrial workers in the near future. With these facilities, Tanjung Manis is poised to become a strategic economic hub for the central region of Sarawak.”
Earlier, Awang Tengah disclosed that a committee had been formed and it agreed to welcome five investors, who would bring in RM9 billion worth of investments to Tanjung Manis.
The five are Mingde Investment from Beijing (China), Maximgold Technology Sdn Bhd from Johor and three local firms — TG Agrosolutions Sdn Bhd, Boh Ming Broiler Farm Sdn Bhd and Ceria Alliance Sdn Bhd.
“They will invest in aquaculture, agriculture and livestock industries,” he said.
Awang Tengah also said the state government could anticipate larger volume of cargoes coming to Tanjung Manis port, through its new vessel-servicing unit which handled MV Cape
Fawley — a vessel operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation that made its maiden call here last month.
This, he added, marked another key milestone in efforts to directly link the state’s central region with North Asia and the Pacific via Tanjung Manis.
“Transit time for cargo to and from Hong Kong is six days while for Shekou, it’s seven days. This (vessel service in Tanjung Manis port) promises a 50-per cent reduction in transit time.
“Such progress augurs well with the state government’s aspiration to make Tanjung Manis a vibrant port city by 2030,” he said.
