‘Give Bidayuh BN representatives a bigger voice’
TEBEDU: Minister for Infrastructure Development and Communications Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong called on the Christian community here to stay strong to their religious practice.
The Tebedu assemblyman also encouraged young men in the area to consider priesthood as their vocation in line with the community’s hope to see a Catholic parish set up here.
“Since this area is close to the Indonesian border, we want to give a good impression to our visitors when they see our churches. It must be noted that Pontianak (provincial capital of Kalimantan Barat) has a big Catholic Church which is the most beautiful in South East Asia,” he said.
Manyin said this at the leader-meet-the-people session in Kampung Entubuh near here yesterday.
He then presented a RM500,000 allocation recently approved by the chief minister for the re-construction of St Matthew Church in Entubuh.
With Kampung Gahat Mawang also recently receiving RM630,000 for the village’s church, he said he will continue to seek more funds for the purpose of upgrading churches and the construction of newer ones to replace those in poor conditions in the Tebedu constituency.
In view of the coming 11th State election, Manyin who is also PBB vice president called on the Bidayuh community to ensure Barisan Nasional wins in all the eight Bidayuh-majority seats come polling day.
“It is very certain that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will win and form the state government again. So, by BN winning all eight Bidayuh seats, this will give the Bidayuh BN representatives a bigger voice when requesting for allocations and proposal of projects,” he said.
Meanwhile, village chief Bingam Libai said the voters must give Manyin a bigger majority win this election in recognition of his many contributions to the constituency.
“’Kade buleh’ (It cannot be) a simple win but a big win for him to continue representing us for another five years in the DUN,” he said.
Also present yesterday were political secretary to the chief minister John David Nyauh and newly appointed Pemanca for the Bidayuh community in Tebedu, Kane Madung.
